What is Glutaraldehyde?

Glutaraldehyde, also widely known as Pentanedial or 1,5-Pentanedial, is a colorless, oily, and highly reactive aliphatic dialdehyde compound with powerful biocidal and crosslinking properties. It is one of the most versatile high-level disinfectants and industrial biocides, extensively adopted in sterilization, wastewater treatment, laboratory specimen fixation, and industrial material modification. Unlike mild disinfectants, Glutaraldehyde can irreversibly denature microbial proteins and nucleic acids, achieving efficient inactivation of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores, which makes it irreplaceable for high-standard cold sterilization and industrial microbial control scenarios.

Chemically stable in buffered aqueous solutions and with strong penetration, Glutaraldehyde (Glutaral) outperforms many traditional aldehyde disinfectants in durability and disinfection efficacy.
