Main Industrial Applications of Dimethyl Disulfide
Catalyst Sulfurizing Agent for Petrochemical Industry
Dimethyl Disulfide is a dominant sulfurizing agent for hydrotreating catalysts in oil refineries. It is used to presulfide hydrodesulfurization, hydrodenitrogenation and hydrogenation catalysts. It can fully activate metal catalysts and extend their service life, widely applied in crude oil processing, gasoline and diesel upgrading processes.
Organic Synthesis Intermediate for Fine Chemicals
As an important organic intermediate, DMDS is used to synthesize various sulfur-containing chemicals, pesticides and rubber additives. It participates in multiple organic reactions to produce thioethers, thiols and other fine chemical products, playing an irreplaceable role in the fine chemical chain.
Odorant & Warning Agent for Gas & Fuel
Due to its strong and recognizable odor, Dimethyl Disulfide is widely used as an odorant for natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas and industrial fuels. It adds a distinct smell to odorless combustible gas, enabling people to quickly detect gas leakage and ensure production and residential safety.
Flavor & Fragrance Additive
In the food flavor and daily fragrance industry, DMDS is applied to prepare special essences. It provides characteristic sulfur-containing aroma for certain food flavors, seasonings and artificial fragrances, strictly used in compliance with food-grade usage standards.
Raw Material
It acts as a key raw material for manufacturing some insecticides, fungicides and intermediates. Its sulfur-containing molecular structure helps form active ingredients with biological activity, supporting the production of agrochemical and medical products.
